Based in the Los Carneros and Stags Leap districts of Napa and Sonoma Valleys, Robert Sinskey has grown his 100% organic and biodynamic certified winegrowing operation to over 200 acres of premium vineyards over the past twenty-five years.
Founded on a conviction that artisanal winemaking begins with the care of the land, Robert, along with winemaker Jeff Virnig, quietly converted their vineyards to biodynamic practices, beginning in 1991. Looking beyond the vineyard, the Sinskey estate have reduced their carbon footprint further, by generating 75% of the energy used at the winery through solar photovoltaic installations and the brewing of bio-diesel, made from used restaurant oil, to power machinery.
Robert Sinskey believes that the goals of making luxuriously elegant wines and farming with earth friendly methods are not mutually exclusive. On the contrary, he has found that caring for the land and conscientious business practices have helped to define the well-crafted and characterful Robert Sinskey wines.
Robert Sinskey’s wife, Maria Helm Sinskey, is the winery’s resident chef and her influence is clearly expressed in the wines, which are indisputably food-friendly.
ABRAXAS VIN DE TERROIR – SCINTILLA SONOMA VINEYARD 2015
This wine is alive! It is pure, fresh and vibrant with aromas and flavors of green apple, pear, pineapple, lychee, lemon verbena and river stone minerality. These juicy, mouth-watering notes suggest that this wine should be sweet but, when tasted, a dry, clean, crisp profile defines Abraxas. Meyer lemon, key lime, ripe peach, fresh pineapple, candied orange peel, ginger, cardamom and chamomile are intertwined from the first sip to the last. The wine’s complex flavor profile is matched by layers of evolving texture. This wine is ideal for the table in its youth, but will be a long-lived white wine for those who prefer the subtleties of age.

The aromas and flavors transport you to a garden party in the South with floral hints of lilac, gardenia, magnolia flowers and fresh fruit notes of apricot or white peach, pear and lychee backed by classic Riesling mineral characteristics and hints of lime. The citrus notes add a crisp and refreshingly long finish. This wine is vibrant and delicious young and will pair with almost anything you want to throw at it from fish tacos to pad thai to tarte flambé, but the wine will only become more complex with time in the cellar as the flavors merge and texture becomes more round.
Orgia is a trip. A bright, vibrant wine with the initial impression of a white and the gravitas of a red. The wine has a beautiful copper hue gleaned from skin contact during fermentation. The aroma is effusive with a wonderful medley of orange blossom, honey, crisp apple, and tea. The aroma follows through on the palate with the added impression of saltiness that implies this wine would be incredible with seafood. The tannin from the skin contact is apparent and lends the wine a mineral weightiness with incredible depth and length that just keeps going furthur, suggesting this wine will age gracefully for generations.
Dark, deep and beautiful, this almost opaque wine’s aroma leads with a cornucopia of fresh fruit: black cherry, red currant, ripe plum, and blackberry; a reminder of the vintage’s generous sunshine and excellent harvest conditions. A swirl in a glass or decanter reveals complex hints of bay leaf, anise, cacao and graphite. The first sip is more savory and firm than the fruit-forward aroma cues would suggest as Kalamata olive, mocha, cranberry, and blackberry fill out the full-bodied mouthfeel with a sleek mineral-influenced backbone and a bright, mouth watering finish. This wine has a strong, elegant character that will allow it to be enjoyed with the finest cuts of meat as well as more subtle dishes like game birds, mushroom risotto and even many vegetarian preparations.
PINOT NOIR LOS CARNEROS 2015
Rose, lavender and rosemary aromas spring from the bottle with an alluring and clear first impression of true Pinot form. Layers of ripe strawberry, cranberry, red plum, raspberry and Rainier cherry unfold shortly thereafter and are rounded out by the warmth of cardamom, clove and vanilla spice from time spent resting in elegant French oak. Tasting reveals more of its youth and vigor than its bouquet suggests. Textured fruit flavors of blood orange, cranberry and pomegranate burst through the mid-palate and carry through a long, mouthwatering finish nuanced by Carneros terroir notes of sage and forest floor.
CABERNET FRANC VANDAL VINEYARD 2014
RSV’s Cabernet Franc, Vandal Vineyard 2014, exhibits high-tone aromas of violet, oregano and sage — leaving a first impression that suggests old world styling, but with a delicious core of California sun-kissed blackberry and black cherry accompanied by notes of mocha, clove and nutmeg. Brooding concentration and complexity resolve into a focused finish on rails of sleek tannins. Drunk early, the wine will benefit from a swirl in the decanter prior to serving, yet all signs suggest this 2014 vintage has the bones to be cellared with the best of RSV’s Cabernet Francs.
CABERNET SAUVIGNON ‘STAG LEAP DISTRICT’ ESTATE 2010
A classic SLD Cabernet Sauvignon that is complex with a beautiful structure and loaded with juicy blackberry fruit and cassis balanced by violet, graphite, capsicum, sage and fresh bay. Similar to the 2007 vintage, this one has nice bones and a deep voice. Decant when serving in the near-term or put this one away for a future good time.

Fruit-forward aromas of cassis, blueberry and blackberry form the first impression, but first impressions don’t tell the whole story! Any great young wine needs time to open and evolve in glass, bottle or decanter.
